Kashmir carpets are woven in the surrounding area of Srinagar in Kashmir.
Belonging to luxurious carpets they have the uniqueness, manufacturing silk carpet on cotton-based warp that makes them (compared to other silk carpets) heavier and smoothly as an wool carpet. (So they combine the advantages of silk and woolen carpets)
Most of the designs like the tree of life, the garden or the paisley have their roots in the lifestyle of Kashmir and they are a symbolic representation of the old traditions of hospitality, warmth and genuine love.
Kashmir Carpets are made in various qualities of materials and weaving density. So there are e.g. 14/14, 16/16, 18/18, 24/24 qualities. Our company sells exclusively from quality 18/18 and above and only genuine animal silk and not visually similar viscose also sold in Kashmir.
Kashmir is a province of India and the Indian Ministry of textiles even hang onto all genuine silk carpets a certificate of authenticity.
Generally about Indian carpets
The beginning of the art of weaving handmade carpets in India located historically in the 11th century with the coming of the first Muslim invaders, in the 15th century and after the Mughals extending to India the Indians adopted the Persian art and design.
Many Persian weavers settled in India at the time and brings the know how, after that the Indian production showed significant creations.
The style of the Persian carpet is then embellished by Indian art, creating a new style that will be recognized as an Indian rug.
