Agcha rugs are knotted by Turkmens in the Acqcha district in north Afghanistan, but also in Pakistan by fugitives who have crossed over the borders.
The Agcha rugs are very similar to the Khal Mohammadi rugs, but with lower knot density.
The rugs have the same characteristics, with the deep, warm, and fiery red base colour, the relatively high and sturdy pile and a repeating geometrical figure called a gul (Persian: “flower” or “rose”), guls are associated with specific groups. The Buchara Gül (Elephant’s Foot) is the primary pattern of the Agcha rugs.
The rugs almost always have a red field with black designs.Various vegetable and other natural dyes are used to produce the rich colors.
The weavers also produce other trappings of the nomadic lifestyle, including tent bags and ceremonial pieces.
This Carpet is very durable, well worth its price.
