Daily cleaning
Wipe your carpet often to remove dirt and grime that long-term rub and wear the carpet fibers, use a vacuum cleaner without fear and remember with your final movement to lay the pile in the right direction again.
At regular intervals you should also wipe the upside down side of the carpet. (You can also leave the carpet laid upside down for a few days so that all the trapped dust falls to the floor)
Washing
Depending on the carpet and the use, the carpet should be washed thoroughly by a special handmade carpet cleaning workshop every 4 to 6 years.
Avoid washing them very often, because the soap removes the natural protective lanolin of the hair and so the carpet is constantly getting dirty easier.
Washing at home - Annual care
Put lukewarm water and liquid carpet detergent (or woolen clothes) in a bucket and shake to make a rich foam. Use a very soft brush (or a tight sponge) and after wetting and shaking it well, just take the foam from the bucket and pass the whole carpet in strips always in the direction of the pile.
Rinse immediately after with a clean cloth and water.
Finally, make a solution of water and white vinegar (in a ratio of 3 to 1) and pass the whole carpet again with the brush or sponge in the direction of the pile, in order to protect and shine the colors but also to disinfect the carpet at the same time.
At the end of this process, make sure that you have used only enough water so that the carpet is only slightly and superficially wet and in no case soaked in depth.
(Always before you do anything to test the color fastness in a small spot)
If you are lucky enough to have snow in their area you can, like the old housewives, use the snow to wash your carpets.
Take the carpet out at least half an hour before cleaning so that it cools down and the snow does not melt on it and then rub it with clean snow.
Stains - minor accidents
Absorb wet stains immediately by dabbing with a clean dry cloth or vetex without rubbing and repeat with a damp cloth, if the stain persists, clean with wool detergent diluted well in water. Lay the pile in the right direction again and if necessary, dry it with a hair dryer.
More solid stains remove them well with a spoon and follow the above procedure.
A smart way is to rub the detergent in a circular motion from the outside to the inside of the stain with the back of the spoon and then with the inner side and the spoon in an upright position pass a strip strip over the point (towards the side of the pile ). The stain together with the detergent will rise on the spoon which you will wipe.
For carpets without pile such as e.g. soak the rugs as you become the stain and then wrap a detergent-sprayed cloth over a cork and scrub like a swab.
You can also use special stain removers but always test the durability of the paints and materials first.
Fringes
Carefully clean them with soapy water and a soft brush, taking care not to get water on the carpet (We advise you to clean them with the carpet hanging on a railing).
Do not try to bleach them with chemicals because you will spoil them. The natural color of the cotton is not white anyway.
How to store
Make sure the carpet is completely dry.
Wrap the carpet in a roll towards the side of the pile and use anti-rust paper.
Do not wrap it in plastic bags but in a cotton sheet. Tie the ends with string and store it horizontally in a damp place.
If due to space needs you are obliged to store the carpet folded then fold it with the good side from the outside (but prefer the roll).
GENERAL RULES AND NOTES
- Avoid shaking completely.
-Use the straw beaters in moderation, but without exaggerating the force.
-Press evenly on the carpets, laying them on the other side every year and move the furniture on the carpet at intervals of a few centimeters.
-Do not leave your carpets wet as there is a risk of discoloration, be careful in general the humidity from pots, minor accidents that did not fall into your perception, bathroom lofts, etc.
-The constant sun can damage any material, protect your carpets and other favorite items from sunlight.
-Fine carpets that may slip on your floors can be fixed with special non-slip substrates that also protect against abrasion (you can get them from us or from our e-shop www.mbi.gr)
-After washing some pieces of carpet (especially silk) may be a little dry, which is usually due to the detergent, wet them slightly and scrub with a brush, in more difficult cases use pumice.
-Many times from heavy furniture or from wetting, you squeeze the pile of the carpet or it changes direction and creates a shadow, then just lightly wet the spot, rub and brush again in the right direction. If you do not have a good result, you can also iron it by putting a kitchen towel on the carpet.
