Ziegler rugs are high strength carpets, with excellent ghazni handspun wool , which is dyed with vegetable colors . Usually the motifs are based on old Persian Sarough designs , with sparse branches and large flowers . The pastel colors and the bright shades are a innovation and with it the success of Afghan carpets. Works by skilled weavers with high knot density , and robust uneven weave, this means that each loop on the back side of a real knot . Simple Ziegler is usually with an weave on one level, this means while the back side shows two loops as two knots , there is essentially only one knot ,so this carpets are thicker woven, with the half density only , half the amount of wool and therefore inferior . Ziegler & Co. were a Manchester–based Anglo-Swiss producer and distributor of Persian carpets in the late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries. The company had workshops in Tabriz and Sultanabad (now Arak) and supplied retailers such as Liberty & Company and Harvey Nichols. Their designs are were modifications of, often substantially different from, more traditional Persian ones and they used the latest dying techniques and employed the best artisans from area. They tend to have bolder all-over patterns and use softer palettes than the livilier traditional Persian carpets. "Zeigler carpets" long ago became a term used to mean this style of carpet. Modern Zieglers being produced in many countries and qualities. Original Ziegler carpets and old carpets of similar designs are often highly valued by collectors.
