About Antique Sarough American
Sarough and American Sarough rugs, also known as Saruk or Sarouk
Sarough rugs are woven in the cities Sarouk and Arak, both located in the Iranian province of Arak. The carpets have been produced for over a century by now and became popular mainly through American customers, between the 1910s and 1950s, due to their floral designs. However, the American market was looking for colours different to those used in the original carpets, thus the so-called “American Sarouks” were dyed in deep raspberry-red colour, appealing to the local customers. Today, original American Sarouks are, not least because of their history, one of the most wanted Persian carpets.
