PAKISTAN BUCHARA QUALITIES
Pakistan Buchara carpets have the following quality ratings
Pakistan 3ply
Typical is the thick (about 15mm) and heavy pile that is placed on the 3-strand wool (hence the name 3ply) that is used.
Although it almost never has silk, it is one of the best qualities of these rugs.
Knotdensity about 400,000 per square meter.
Very good, soft and shiny wool.
Pakistan Karachi 10/20
The best quality and the one we mainly trade
Knotdensity about 400,000 per square meter
Thickness about 5-7 mm
Wool and silk pile from good quality materials is also called Pakistan Silktouch
Pakistan Lahore 9/18
Simple but good quality at a low price
Knotdensity about 250,000 per square meter.
Thickness about 7-9 mm
No silk
Design usually Buchara without silk
There are many even lower qualities with or without silk
such as e.g. 8/16 or 7/14. But we do not trade them at all, nor do we suggest their choice.
They are made with the sole aim of selling at a low price and have nothing to do with the above qualities.
Unfortunately, in the past, large quantities of such carpets were sold and, as is usually the case, customers were not properly informed, with the result that the best qualities were discredited along with them.
